About

REX™ RoundTables for Executives is the premier process for executives who want to improve the performance of their organization and the quality of their life. REX brings non competiting CEOs of leading companies in the same industry together on a regular basis to learn from each other and from our experienced chairs. Each Roundtable of approximately 14 CEOs meets three times a year. The group shares successes, solves problems, challenges and supports one another. This is best practices in action. REX Roundtables do not focus on average industry performance but looks at the top ten or twenty percent. Roundtables now operate in several industries, more are being added each year. REX RoundTable members are all executives, usually the one who owns or heads up the organization although some round tables consist of senior executives who report to the leader of the organization. We serve a mix of non profit institutions and for profit businesses. The REX community is committed to supporting one another professionally and personally.

REX supports RoundTable chairs by providing training, mentoring and on going support for experienced executives and active consultants who wish to become round table chairs. We help chairs select appropriate industries for their round tables in the corporate, government and/or non profit world; guide them in marketing to build their round table(s); train and mentor them in the unique REX process of chairing a round table; and finally REX supports their round tables with extensive, value added resources. There are low upfront costs for the prospective chair except the investment of time and some travel expenses to learn about REX and become a trained chair.

REX also seeks experienced chairs now leading their own roundtables to join the REX community and accelerate their professional and personal growth. REX chairs are part of a growing community of unique coach/consultants/teachers who share a commitment to forming and chairing round tables of executives.

Background

After twenty years of consulting in a variety of formats in over 34 industries and nine countries Will Phillips wanted to solve a major shortfall of the management consulting. Large, public corporations are most likely to spend freely on management consulting, but are often uncommitted to implementing change than smaller, privately held businesses. But small businesses can not afford the in depth consulting to assure insightful resolution and implementation of improvements. This led Will to explore alternative delivery methods for a change and improvement process.

In 1986 he started his first RoundTable for the San Diego Chamber of Commerce. After several years of outstanding success Will ended his partnership with the Chamber to have more flexibility in RT design. Since then he has continuously chaired RoundTables and developed the tools, skills and resources to train other chairs to stabilize their consulting income, create valued and lasting relationships with clients and have a near perfect attendance record from busy executives.

Qm², the predecessor of REX, created fifteen Executive Round Tables in three industries: health clubs, museums and interior landscaping. Qm² provided a broad spectrum of strategic consulting and change services to the business and non profit world. As our skills in chairing RoundTables became apparent, Will Phillips choose to focus exclusively on the RoundTable business and created the REX entity to do this.

The basic model for the RT is fourteen executives from the same industry who are not competitors. They meet three times a year for one and one half to two days with a professional chair who orchestrates the session to address each individual's key issues, to mobilize the group's resources to function as an informal board of advisors to each executive and finally to deliver new ideas and concepts to the members. Over time, the RT acts as an important accountability mechanism for organizational leaders.
